Opportunities for connection are all around

I’ve been contemplating recently about how every day there are so many opportunities to show others love, compassion and encouragement and I wonder how many of those opportunities we miss because we’re more focused on what we’re doing than what others around us may need.

I was on the bus yesterday on the way to an appointment and I sat beside a lady holding a baby. She asked “do you know if this bus just goes around in a circle? It’s the only thing I’ve found to help this baby to sleep.”

I didn’t have the answer for her, being fairly new to Los Angeles, but I asked her a few questions about her life and she quickly began telling me about how her husband of 47 years had recently passed away and how much she missed him. She found purpose in being a nanny for someone who was studying to be a surgeon, yet still knew she had much grief to sort through. I shared some personal experiences of my own related with what she had and the feeling of loss, as well as encouragement for life moving forward.

It was a sweet connection that I left feeling inspired by. It’s easy to get lost in our phones or in our thoughts about what we’re doing, that we might not engage with people who around us and be able to share a moment that may lift us up through whatever circumstances we have.

My hope is to always be aware of people, and what is needed for Greater Love to be experienced in the world.

  1. You are truly a man with compassion that some do not have these days. It warms my heart when I hear of someone who is truly an example of Christ-like living. In my church we are encouraged to live righteously and do the things He would do if He were right here. You are an amazing example of that. I’m glad to know you and please stay in contact and let me know how things are going in your wonderful journey.
